A Case for an International Logistics Blockchain - Kiwoon Sung, Samsung SDS
Samsung SDS presents a case where Ocean Shipping Logistics Blockchain Consortium that we founded and announced in May 2017, has applied Blockchain to the real business in ocean shipping logistics. The consortium, comprising 32 entities (as of September 2017) including shippers, customs services, forwarders, ocean carriers, terminal operators, EDI system providers and port authorities, has successfully tested a Blockchain-based trust network in a fully-distributed fashion using Hyperledger Fabric 1.0., and has proved the usefulness of blockchain technology in shipping and logistics industries. Also, blockchain-incorporated sensors such as GPS, humidity, temperature and shock, attached refrigerated containers on ships and managed on our own IoT platform, Cello, have provided greater visibility to all interconnected entities on the blockchain network, which enabled them to be prepared for the subsequent actions in the ordinary course of logistics processes. Given business requirements that we have analyzed, information is to be shared only among pre-agreed entities using multi-channels, and only agreed parties are allowed to access permitted channels using the multi-ledger. Also, to reduce the complexity and overhead cost to operate a large number of multiple channels, we have developed and applied the Chaincode-based automated data routing scheme that transfers given data to the channels with the processing rules that the application developers can specify. Since the number of the entities in this consortium is not trivial and continues to grow, we have also applied automation tools, components and a simple API layer that encapsulates SDKs and provides additional features including Smart Contract capabilities as well as the automated data routing with which we can deploy the entire blockchain network and use its application efficiently. Throughout this presentation, we will describe the implication of this pilot project, the technical issues that we have overcome to support the existing applications, and the future plan that will make the system interoperable with other blockchain systems from financial and insurance sectors. It would be a great opportunity that we discuss and share the lessons learned and what future enhancements will be beneficial to Blockchain and Hyperledger community.

Hyperledger-Based Green Asset Backed Security Application - Yin Cao, Energy Blockchain Labs
Our company’s mission is to establish an inclusive finance system that captures the true value of human and natural capital. Last summit in New York, we have presented the carbon credit platform we developed based on Fabric, while carbon market is only one small portion of green finance source. If we can use this distributed ledger platform to develop and manage carbon credit, we can also use it to develop and manage other green financial asset, for example, green bond and green ABS, Our purpose is to use the blockchain technology to help small and medium size green projects and assets rise capital from both public and private sector more easily and less expensively. No matter what finance tool it is.

Therefore, besides the Carbon Credit Project, We have developed another green financial application with our Shenzhen Stock Exchange, to help those green assets raise money via green ABS, asset backed security.

A securitization only can be defined as ‘green’ when cash flows backing the securitization come from low carbon assets, and the green attributes should be labeled by a professional third party certificater. Currently, the process of green ABS issuing is very complicated and time consuming. Lots of participants are involved, various standards should be applied, thus severely restrain the utilization of Green ABS.

We have summarized several key Challenges to Green ABS in China.

-No clear and harmonic standards to define ‘green’ assets
Difficulty in identifying green assets in existing loans
-Low credit ratings for green ABS
-Lack of sufficient volume of green loans within one lender
-Uncertain investor demand for green ABS

Our Green ABS platform aims to tackle those challenges I listed above, it is also based on Hyperledger Fabric. This platform will collect data on green assets at the initial stages, and standardize those ABS contract terms by smart contract. Via this product, we plan to help unlock finance in debt capital markets for smaller scale low carbon and climate-resilient assets.

FinTech Regulatory Sandboxes: A Global Perspective - Perianne Boring, Chamber of Digital Commerce
Regulators around the world are creating “regulatory sandboxes” in which businesses can test their FinTech innovations in an environment with potentially reduced regulatory requirements. This practice affords companies the ability to gain experience that can be used to further develop their products, attract investors, and ultimately enter mainstream commerce.  In addition, regulators gain first-hand experience to develop an understanding of these cutting-edge technologies that can guide their policy considerations. This presentation will review select regulatory sandboxes in Singapore and around the globe, as well as outline the challenges and benefits of participating in these environments.
